Coach Craig Fullerton Confident About India’s Balanced Squad for Upcoming World Cup

Delhi, 21 July – In a press briefing held today, head coach Craig Fullerton expressed optimism about the Indian men’s hockey team’s chances at the upcoming FIHI World Cup. Fullerton said the 20‑player group selected by Hockey India presents a “balanced blend of seasoned campaigners and in‑form youth.”

“The players have earned their places on merit, not on reputation,” Fullerton remarked, pointing to the mix of veterans such as captain Hermanpreet Singh and emerging talents like Rajinder Singh and Aditya Arjun Lalage. He noted that the squad’s preparation has centered on building pressure, executing swift counter‑attacks and maintaining a disciplined defensive structure.

Fullerton also reminded everyone that it has been half a century since India lifted the World Cup trophy in 1975. “We have a genuine opportunity to add a new chapter to Indian hockey history,” he said, adding that the team is “excited and fully committed” to the challenge.

The Indian side will compete in Pool D with England, Pakistan and Wales, with the first match against Wales slated for 15 August at Amsterdam’s arena. The calendar also includes fixtures against England on 17 August and a high‑stakes clash with Pakistan on 19 August.
