It has not been an easy ride for Prithvi Shaw in international cricket so far but the 20-year-old India opener has got a lifeline to revive his nascent career.
After being out of action from the international stage for more than a year, Prithvi Shaw was handed his maiden ODI call-up for the upcoming 3-match series in New Zealand from February 5.
Prithvi Shaw has suffered a tumultuous period over the last 12 months. Starting from the ankle injury that marred his maiden trip to Australia with the senior team to the doping ban that created a flutter, Shaw went through a tough phase wherein he wasn’t “feeling too well”.
Prithvi Shaw broke into the international scene after scoring tons of runs in the maidans of Mumbai. The young prodigy, who was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, rose to fame after leading India to U-19 World Cup glory in 2018.
Shaw’s flamboyance and his ability to go after the new-ball bowlers made sure he was fastracked to international cricket.
Shaw did not disappoint. On his Test debut against the West Indies in October 2018, Shaw slammed a 154-ball 134, stamping his authority over the visiting pacers. Shaw’s ability to dominate bowling attacks was spoken about a lot and he showcased it in his maiden Test series at home.
Shaw followed up his dream debut in Rajkot with a 53-ball 70 in Hyderabad against the West Indies.
