In a vibrant display of unity, Delhi’s streets came alive Sunday with the 66th ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle,’ themed ‘Guardians of Nature.’ Forest rangers in uniform led the pack, cycling past India Gate and drawing applause from spectators, blending their conservation zeal with the fitness drive.
Starting from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, the event opened to patriotic tunes from the army band and a traditional shankhnaad flag-off. Organized with support from key environment ministries, it aimed to spotlight physical wellness alongside planetary protection. More than 500 cyclists of every generation gathered early, energizing the air with pre-ride Zumba, yoga, and rope-skipping.
The spotlight intensified with the ‘Pratham PSPB Fit India Cyclothon’—a thrilling 5km showdown. SK Prajapati topped men’s under-45, Kushmeet Singh ruled over-45, Preeti Mane excelled in women’s under-45, and Ranjana Anand claimed the over-45 crown. Awards ceremonies followed amid jubilant crowds.
Honorees included Chief Wildlife Warden Dr. P. Vishwakannan, alongside elite athletes: Arjun award-winning shooter Shilpi Bisht, basketball star Mohit Bhandari, hockey ace Kushmeet Singh, carrom champion Rashmi Kumari, and Fit India envoy Rahul Pradhan. Their star power motivated participants to push limits.
The action continued with a grand public cycle rally, yoga flows, live music, and entertainment zones, creating a carnival vibe. Spearheaded by Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya since December 2024, the initiative has evolved into a mass movement, weekly engaging thousands across India. It champions the dual pursuit of personal health and ecological stewardship for a sustainable future.
