Fit India's Sunday on Cycle Reaches 96th Edition in Delhi
The 96th edition of the weekly 'Sunday on Cycle' programme was held in New Delhi on October 25. Organised under the Fit India Abhiyan, the event saw national basketball player Aryan Kumar flag off the cycle rally, where he underlined the link between cycling and overall well-being.
Aryan Kumar said the government's initiative is excellent. He noted that physical activity is necessary in everyday life, even for people who are not professional sportspersons, because it supports mental health. He called the campaign exciting and new, saying it encourages people to come out of their houses in the morning.
The rally attracted a large crowd of young people, while senior citizens also joined in. Apart from cycling, youngsters were seen performing dance practice as part of their fitness efforts.
The campaign was launched in December 2024 by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs. Since then, the event has taken place every Sunday, not only in Delhi but in many other parts of India.
The programme seeks to build health awareness and inspire people to adopt cycling. The government is also running an anti-obesity campaign through the initiative. Its environmental value is significant, as cycling reduces fuel use and supports a cleaner environment. The government is additionally focusing on involving more young people to help make them drug-free.
