Finn Allen Joins Melbourne Stars Ahead of BBL Season Starting Dec 12

New Zealand’s explosive T20 batsman Finn Allen has signed for the Melbourne Stars as the Big Bash League prepares to launch its 16th season on 12 December. The move adds firepower to a lineup already featuring Glen Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.

Allen’s most recent domestic performance came with the Perth Scorchers, where he led the run‑scoring charts with 466 runs at 42.36, including a 101‑run blitz off 53 balls.

“The Stars are a powerhouse club with a huge and ever‑growing fan base. I’m excited to play at the MC G and be part of that vibe,” Allen said after the agreement was announced.

His 2026 highlights are a testament to his destructive style: a century for the Scorchers, a 33‑ball hundred in the T20 World Cup semi‑final against South Africa that sent New Zealand to the final, and a 100 off 47 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

The BBL’s revised signing rules allow each franchise to directly recruit up to three overseas players this season, as the overseas draft is not being held. Allen becomes the Stars’ 12th overseas signing for BBL 16, leaving six roster places still vacant.

Holding a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket, Allen remains eligible for national selection while competing in franchise leagues.

Statistically, he has taken part in 62 matches for New Zealand, scoring 1,663 runs at a 170.73 strike‑rate, with three centuries and seven fifties. Across all T20 formats he has logged 6,024 runs from 215 matches, striking at 176.50, with seven centuries, 36 fifties and a highest score of 151.
