How Fibeall Merges Basketball Basics with Multi‑Team Strategy

IIT Madras introduced Fibeall on the occasion of National Sports Day, presenting a game that fuses core basketball elements with a three‑team invasion format. The sport requires 21 participants, divided equally among three squads, each defending a single basket.

The launch ceremony featured Professor V. Kamkoti, the institute’s director, alongside faculty and a large group of students eager to test the new rules. According to Dean Professor Satyanarayana N. Gummadi, the choice of basketball as a foundation stemmed from its limited reach in many Indian schools due to costly court requirements.

Fibeall’s design leverages basic dribbling, passing and shooting skills while adding layers of strategy as teams must simultaneously protect their own hoop and attack the other two. This creates a fast‑moving, high‑stakes environment that encourages both individual talent and collective coordination.

Feedback from a third‑year B.Tech student highlighted the novelty of the concept and its potential to boost basketball proficiency. The institute believes that the modest facility needs will allow Fibeall to be adopted widely across urban and rural settings.
