Family dispute turns into alleged police harassment, says Singh
New Delhi, July 12 – Shashank Singh, a top‑order batsman for Punjab Kings, has alleged that a routine family disagreement was manipulated into a case of police harassment.
The controversy began when the Bhopal night police registered an FIR accusing Singh, his father retired Special DG of Police Shailesh Singh, and a household cook of physical assault, abusive language, and the forcible removal of the cook’s mobile phone.
Singh posted an extensive narrative online, stating the episode reshaped his perspective and that he is sharing the story not for empathy but to warn others.
He recounted how, as a professional athlete, he has learned to handle trolling and insults over the years, yet this incident differed sharply. He highlighted that a large number of people began hurling abuse at him without any verification.
The family’s later video review showed the cook exiting the premises unharmed. The individual subsequently returned of his own accord, roamed inside the house, photographed the interior, and sent the images to friends, leading Singh’s family to expel him on the third day.
Police data revealed the cook already faced nine FIRs and eight charge‑sheets, covering alleged crimes ranging from attempted murder, house burglary (including a theft at Singh’s home), assault, trespassing, extortion by inflicting injury, criminal intimidation, obscene acts, and offenses under SC/ST legislation. The suspect was also using three separate aliases.
Singh contends that the false FIR was a strategic move to exert financial pressure, hoping he would pay to protect his public standing. He stressed the irony that genuine victims often have to fight hard to file FIRs for serious offenses, while his family was subjected to an FIR without any interview or hearing.
He also dismissed media speculation linking the incident to a claim dated 30 April 2026, noting that a simple fact‑check would confirm his active participation in IPL matches on that date.
Singh concluded by urging everyone to conduct thorough background checks before employing domestic help, to refrain from allowing misplaced sympathy to replace rational verification, and to always rely on proper police clearance when hiring any registered service.
