Explosive Opening Knockout Powers Jamaica Over Trinbago

Sabina Park was the stage for a dramatic CPL encounter when the Jamaica Kingsmen chased down a 183‑run target set by the Trinbago Knight Riders. The match, the eighth of the 2026 season, ended with Jamaica winning by five wickets, thanks largely to a blistering opening performance.

Kirk McKenzie lit up the scoreboard with a 69‑run blitz from just 25 balls. His innings featured six towering sixes and an equal number of fours, turning the chase into a sprint. Partnering him was Reza Hendricks, who added 37 runs from 29 deliveries, and together they amassed a 93‑run opening partnership in the first seven overs.

Captain Rowan Powell kept the momentum alive, scoring 29 off 22 balls, while Andre Russell contributed a rapid 27 from 15 balls, including two sixes. The side wrapped up the chase at 183 for five with 1.2 overs remaining.

Trinbago’s innings had been anchored by Nicholas Pooran’s 44 off 32 balls and Polard’s 44 off 22, both peppered with fours and sixes. However, losing early wickets limited their total. Usman Tariq’s three wickets were the highlight of their bowling, but Jamaica’s bowlers, with Russell and Hunain Shah each taking two wickets, maintained the upper hand.

The win marks Jamaica’s inaugural victory in the tournament’s fourth game, while Trinbago suffers its first defeat after two matches.
