T20 preparations: New faces debut as Phil Salt and Sam Kerr return for Australia tour
England’s Twenty‑20 lineup for the upcoming Australian series features a blend of experience and fresh talent. After recovering from injuries, all‑rounder Phil Salt and seamer Sam Kerr rejoin the squad, while four uncapped players receive their first senior call‑ups.
The T20 International series will commence on 21 November and run through 2 December. England has rested Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tong for this period to preserve their stamina for the forthcoming Test tour of South Africa.
Uncapped wicket‑keeper‑batsman Thomas Rev and right‑arm pace prospect Eddie Jack are named in the squad for the first time, reflecting the board’s focus on building depth. James Cole and Henry Crocombe are also on the brink of their T20I debuts, with Crocombe having secured a two‑year contract from the ECB.
Phil Salt, fully fit after a long injury lay‑off, steps in for the sidelined Jos Buttler, offering a hard‑hitting option in the middle order. Sam Kerr, cleared of a groin injury, adds his left‑arm seam to the attack.
Captain Harry Brook, praised for his leadership in the limited‑overs format, expressed excitement about testing the side in Australian conditions. "Our T20 team is in great form, and we are eager to challenge a strong Australian side," he said.
England will play a white‑ball warm‑up match in Perth on 7 November before the ODI series begins on 13 November. The squad for the T20 series includes: Harry Brook (c), Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, James Cole, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Kerr, Liam Dawson, Enyuri Donald, Eddie Jack, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Thomas Rev, Phil Salt and Luke Wood.
The inclusion of new talent alongside the returning stars aims to give England a competitive edge and provide valuable experience to the newcomers ahead of future international commitments.
