England Restricts India to 285 in Opening Spell of Lord's Test

The women’s Test between India and England at Lord’s began with India opting to bat after losing the toss on July 10. The innings stumbled early; Shefali Verma fell for four runs and Yastika Bhatia was out for twelve, leaving the side at 37 for two.

A partnership between Jemima Rodrigues, who scored 35, and Smriti Mandhana revived the chase. Mandhana, who played 108 balls, struck eleven fours and a six, accumulating 89 runs before her dismissal at 83.

Captain Hermanpreet Kaur then joined Mandhana, contributing an 89‑run partnership. Kaur herself reached a half‑century, making 58 runs off 121 balls.

Deepthi Sharma added valuable runs toward the end, scoring 57 from 87 balls. Her effort helped India close their first innings at 285 runs.

England’s bowlers extracted three wickets via Sophie Ecclestone, while Lauren Filer, Izzy Wang and Meda Willers each claimed two wickets, and Lauren Bell took one.

When England began their innings, they managed 13 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first seven overs. Tammi Bumann was dismissed for two runs by Kranti Goud. Maya Bouscher stayed unbeaten on nine, and Hider Knight added a single before play was halted.

The test will resume with the second innings slated for later in the week.
