England’s Joe Butler joins elite club of 100 T20I wickets

Rain turned into the unwanted hero of the first T20 International between India and England, halting play after the first side completed its 20 overs. In that truncated encounter, England’s wicket‑keeper Joe Butler achieved a rare milestone.

Stumping Harshit Rana off Adil Rashid’s bowling, Butler recorded his 100th wicket as a keeper in T20 International cricket. The achievement places him as the second keeper worldwide to hit the three‑figure mark and the first from England.

The only other player to have previously reached this landmark is South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who amassed 117 keeper dismissals before retiring. Butler’s record came without a batting contribution, as the match was called off before a second innings could begin.

India’s innings, led by Shreyas Iyer’s 68 and Abhishek Sharma’s 59, featured a solid 82‑run partnership for the third wicket. Yet the weather ultimately dictated the outcome, leaving Butler’s historic feat as the headline.
