El Clasico: Mbappe's Double Powers Real Madrid Past Barcelona
Real Madrid defeated FC Barcelona 2-1 in a closely fought La Liga encounter at Camp Nou. Kylian Mbappe scored both goals for the visitors, and his second strike took him to 100 goals for the club.
Barcelona began with pressure, but Madrid soon found a rhythm. Jude Bellingham's smart turn released Arda Guler, whose pass set up Eduardo Camavinga. Mbappe then outwitted Pau Cubarsi and gave Madrid the early advantage.
In the first half, Madrid stayed organised and gave Barcelona very little room. Guler's first shot, four minutes in, missed the target by a few centimetres. Fourteen minutes later, Joan Garcia stopped his next attempt.
Madrid's breakthrough arrived in the 41st minute after strong team play. Yan Diomande swung in a fine cross. The ball deflected off Gerard Martin as he tried to clear, and Mbappe was left to smash it home with his right foot.
Barcelona hit back within two minutes, though Lamine Yamal failed to find the net from close range. Just before halftime, Diomande faced Garcia alone, but his shot struck the side netting, and Madrid held their 1-0 lead.
The second half was similarly intense. Madrid defended resolutely and punished Barcelona with fast counterattacks. In the 56th minute, Joao Cancelo made a hard challenge on Diomande's thigh. Madrid appealed for a red card, while Diomande received treatment for about a minute.
Raphinha equalised five minutes later. Moments after Guler's difficult angled effort, which Garcia saved, Lunin denied Gerard Martin's header in the 66th minute.
As the match wound down, Jose Mourinho's men decided the contest in the 88th minute. Bellingham's roulette started the attack, and Camavinga's clever pass after beating Cubarsi found Mbappe, who scored without mistake.
Madrid kept their advantage until the end, winning 2-1 at Camp Nou and taking all three points.
