Durand Cup Group E: Shilong Lazong’s Dominant Win Over Mumbai FC

The 135th edition of the Durand Cup witnessed Shilong Lazong FC overpower Mumbai FC in a 5-0 Group E showdown on 8 August. Everbrightson Sanna netted a brace, and the other goals were supplied by Abhay Gurung, Tremiki Lamurong and Figo Sindai.

With three points from two matches, Shilong Lazong sits atop the group, while Langsing FC follows on four points. Nongkseh SC & DCC trail with a single point and Mumbai FC remain winless.

Shilong’s dominance was evident from the first whistle. Frangki Buam and Jota kept the ball wide, creating early threats. The home side’s first solid chance came in the seventh minute when Arthur Pango’s header was cleared by the visitors.

Sanna’s opening goal arrived after Gurung capitalised on a loose ball in the 25th minute. The second half saw Lamurong deliver a precise pass to Sanna for his second goal, and later Sindai’s header from a corner sealed the victory.

Mumbai’s goalkeeper Yashil performed several saves but could not prevent the onslaught. The team’s captain, Kenstar Kharsong, suffered a knee injury before halftime, further hampering their comeback hopes. Shilong Lazong now looks forward to the quarter‑finals with momentum on their side.
