Rahul Dravid, the architect behind India’s recent global triumphs, was conferred the BCCI Naman Lifetime Achievement Award in New Delhi on Sunday. The former captain and head coach called it a humbling milestone, reiterating how fortunate he feels to have been part of Indian cricket’s golden era.
Dravid’s tenure as coach saw India lift the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, a feat that etched his name in history books. The 2023 ODI World Cup final run further highlighted his strategic brilliance. Joining him in recognition were Roger Binny, ex-BCCI president, and Mithali Raj, both recipients of the Col. C.K. Naidu Lifetime Achievement Award.
Through a poignant video on X, Dravid shared his philosophy. He described his role as merely holding the torch passed from predecessors, advancing the legacy as both player and coach. ‘My era came, and I gave my all,’ he said, beaming with joy at the youth carrying the flame higher.
Successes owe much to the collective efforts of management, players, and cricket fraternity, Dravid humbly acknowledged. ‘We all have our time to contribute,’ he reflected, inspired by past icons whose paths he followed. The award, he said, fills him with gratitude, marking decades from under-15 cricket to this pinnacle of reverence in the sport he loves.
