Born into a wrestling family in Muzaffarnagar, Divya Kakarana inherited the sport from her father and brother. When financial strain forced them to quit, they redirected their ambition toward Divya. Her brother Dev sacrificed his own wrestling aspirations to mentor her. The results were swift: silver at the 2017 Asian Championships, another silver at the Commonwealth Championship, bronze at the 2018 Asian Games, and a Commonwealth bronze the same year. She added a second Commonwealth bronze in 2022, competing in the 68 kg class, and was recognized with the Arjuna Award in 2020 for her outstanding performance.
