Dilip Gavit Wins Second Gold as Bhavik Kumar Is Disqualified

Nagoya, October 22: Dilip Mahadu Gavit (T46) claimed his second gold medal at the Asian Para Games after the men's 400m T47 final was marked by the disqualification of fellow Indian Bhavik Kumar Bharwad.

Bhavik Kumar originally finished second in the race at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Thursday, with a time of 49.31 seconds. Gavit won the race in 48.27 seconds. Soon after, Bhavik Kumar was ruled out for breaking the lane rules under TR18.2(c), resulting in the loss of his silver medal.

With the change in standings, Japan's Kakeru Ishida, timed at 49.58 seconds, now holds the second spot. Uzbekistan's Maruf Murodulloev and Sri Lanka's Saman Subasinghe are jointly placed third after both recorded 50.03 seconds, their best time of the season.

Gavit had already made his mark at these Games by winning the men's 100m T47 gold. He clocked 10.69 seconds in that event, a personal best performance that earned him his first medal here.

India also received a boost from Basil (T47), who took silver in the 100m T47 race with 10.72 seconds. The effort created a new Games record.

Gavit's achievements are not limited to these Games. He won gold in the men's 400m T47 event at the Asian Para Games 2022, which was India's historic 100th medal at the competition. He also reached the final of the men's 400m T47 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
