Dilip Gavit and Mohammad Basil secure top two spots for India in 100m T47

In a high‑octane race at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, India’s Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammad Basil Morsingnakath delivered a spectacular 1‑2 finish in the men’s 100 m T47. Gavit’s 10.71‑second sprint not only earned him gold but also set a new Games record, while Basil’s 10.83 seconds secured silver. England’s Kevin Santos took bronze with a time of 10.85 seconds. Gavit, hailing from Toran Dongri village in Maharashtra, previously won gold in the 400 m T47 at the 2022 Asian Para Games and reached the final of the same event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Basil, a native of Veliyankode in Kerala, trains under coach Srinivasan at LNCPE‑Sai while pursuing a degree, emerging as one of India’s most promising para‑sprinters.
