Dhaka Test: Warrican Strikes Five as Bangladesh Post 272
Dhaka, October 29: The second day of the Test between Bangladesh and West Indies at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium concluded with the visiting side on 134 for four, trailing by 138 runs.
West Indies lost Brandon King for 15 after an opening stand of 29 with John Campbell. Campbell then stitched together a partnership of 61 with Tagenarine Chanderpaul, reaching fifty before he was out for 54 off 78 balls. Kevem Hodge scored seven, and Amir Jangoo was dismissed without troubling the scorers.
At stumps, Chanderpaul was batting on 43 and Justin Greaves on 15. The fifth-wicket pair had put on 37 runs in their unbeaten stand.
Bangladesh's bowling figures reflected their control on the day. Taijul Islam claimed two wickets, while Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each took one.
Bangladesh's first innings had ended at 272 after they chose to bat following the toss. Shadman Islam scored a fine century, making 105 from 234 balls. Towhid Hridoy added 42 and Litton Das 34, but little support came from elsewhere. The lower order was particularly poor, losing the final five wickets for 20 runs.
Jomel Warrican, the left-arm spinner, was the leading wicket-taker for West Indies with five wickets. Joshua Bishop and Shamar Joseph each returned two, and Jayden Seales picked up one.
West Indies are 138 runs adrift of Bangladesh's total. Their immediate goal on day three is to match that score as quickly as possible and then build a lead. Bangladesh, in turn, will attempt to claim six wickets early and secure a first-innings advantage.
