DFB Backs Rudi Wolf's Continuation Amid Coaching Shake‑up

Berlin, 8 July – With Germany eliminated in the World Cup round of 16 and head coach Julian Nagelsmann stepping down, the future of sporting director Rudi Wolf was under speculation. According to a report, the DFB’s senior leadership has now confirmed Wolf’s intention to remain in his post until at least the 2028 European Championship.

Wolf told reporters in Frankfurt that the “full package” offered to him was the decisive factor. He also cited a crucial phone call with Jürgen Klopp on Saturday, during which Klopp, the preferred candidate to replace Nagelsmann, clearly expressed his wish for Wolf to stay.

The DFB’s governing board, led by chairman Bernd Neuendorf and vice‑chair Hans‑Joachim Watzke, publicly supported the decision. Wolf also mentioned receiving encouragement from Oliver Mintzlaff of Red Bull and several top officials from the Bundesliga.

"Success is the cornerstone of sport, and it’s how I’ll be judged. I needed to feel that the role still makes sense for me and that the football community still wants my involvement," he said.

The DFB leadership plans to travel to New York later this week to finalize detailed contractual terms with Mintzlaff, covering matters such as Klopp’s release clause and salary arrangements.
