Delhi High Court Backs IPA in Pickleball NSF Dispute

In a boost for organized pickleball in India, the Delhi High Court on Thursday declined to halt the Indian Pickleball Association’s (IPA) status as the country’s National Sports Federation (NSF). The ruling came in response to an appeal by the rival All India Pickleball Association (AIPA).

A division bench heard the LPA against a February 2, 2026, single judge decision that rejected AIPA’s challenge to IPA’s recognition. During the April 7 proceedings, the court issued notices to involved parties and ordered the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) to produce all relevant documentation on IPA’s approval process.

Highlighting the yearly review mechanism in the National Sports Development Code, justices mandated that AIPA be given a fair chance to submit objections in writing when IPA’s recognition comes up for renewal. Yet, the bench turned down interim relief sought by AIPA, including a stay on IPA’s current NSF role.

IPA reacted positively, praising the judiciary’s commitment to fair play and regulatory compliance. ‘Our faith in the process remains unshaken; we are certain that scrutiny will affirm our efforts in advancing pickleball across India,’ the association remarked.

IPA reiterated its dedication to following MYAS guidelines and promised unwavering support to authorities and the court alike. With the matter listed for further hearing on May 11, 2026, stakeholders await a resolution that could solidify pickleball’s institutional framework in the nation.

This case underscores the growing pains of emerging sports in India, where federation rivalries test governance structures designed to foster development.
