Deaf Women's Squad Heads to Moratuwa for Landmark T20 Encounters

India’s deaf women’s cricket unit will travel to Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, for a series of five Twenty‑20 internationals – a first‑ever overseas assignment for the team. The fixtures, scheduled from 7 to 13 July 2026, are set to be played at the D.S. Soysa Park International Cricket Stadium.

The squad’s forthcoming journey was celebrated with a jersey‑reveal ceremony in New Delhi, attended by IDCA chief Sumit Jain, IAS District Magistrate Sani Singh, and other dignitaries. Jain described the tour as a decisive step toward equal opportunity for deaf athletes and highlighted the team’s dedication despite limited exposure.

Veteran cricketer Diana Edulji, a former captain of the Indian women’s side, expressed her admiration for the initiative, noting that the deaf players are challenging stereotypes and expanding cricket’s reach. She recalled watching a deaf T10 tournament in Mumbai, where she had been impressed by the participants’ technique and enthusiasm.

Team captain Kajal Dhawan emphasized the symbolic weight of the tour. She stated that representing India on foreign soil will prove that the ability to hear does not restrict one’s capacity to perform, coach, or inspire.

The series will offer a vital platform for the Indian deaf women to test their skills against a competitive side, while also promoting greater awareness and inclusion within the broader cricketing community.
