Dasgupta flags challenge for Indian batsmen on Sri Lankan wickets

New Delhi, 1 August – Former Indian wicket‑keeper Deep Dasgupta has highlighted a looming challenge for India’s batsmen as the team gears up for a two‑match Test series against Sri Lanka. Speaking to his YouTube audience, Dasgupta said the spin‑rich conditions expected in Colombo will put significant pressure on the Indian batting line‑up.

He noted that while the Indian bowling attack, featuring Washington Sundar, Saransh Jain and Kuldeep Yadav, appears robust, the real test lies in adapting to low‑pace, turning tracks. Dasgupta recalled the South Africa series, pointing out that India’s batting displayed moments of strength but also moments of hesitation against quality spin.

With the World Test Championship standings not in India’s favour, the team has nine fixtures left – five versus Australia and two each against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Dasgupta warned that securing seven wins is essential for a final berth, making the upcoming Sri Lanka series a crucial juncture for the batting unit under captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir.
