Dalil Trophy Final Set for September 6 as South Zone Fields New Players

South Zone will line up Devdutt Padikkal and Mohammad Siraj for the Dalil Trophy final slated for 6 September against East Zone. Their selection follows impressive displays in India’s recent Test series versus Sri Lanka.

In the two‑match series, Padikkal compiled 328 runs, registering a century in each encounter and securing the Player of the Series award. Siraj, on the other hand, claimed four wickets, contributing to India’s 1‑0 series win.

While the duo have been added to the final squad, selectors have not disclosed which regular T20 specialists they are replacing. Core T20 members such as Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma typically feature for India, but the final XI for the domestic final is still being solidified.

South Zone skipper Tilak Verma announced his intention to play the final, emphasizing that the timing works well with the upcoming Afghanistan T20I series, which kicks off on 13 September. He expects a brief rest after the final, which is slated to conclude on 10 September.

The schedule offers sufficient gap for the selected players to transition back to international duties, ensuring minimal disruption to India’s short‑term T20 plans.
