CSK revamps support staff, adds ex‑player Mohit Sharma as bowling mentor

In a strategic move to strengthen its bowling department, Chennai Super Kings have hired former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma as the new bowling mentor for the IPL 2027 edition. Sharma, who played four campaigns for the side, will take over from Eric Simons, who previously collaborated with long‑time head coach Stephen Fleming.

Head coach Zahir Khan confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, noting that Sharma’s experience as a former international and his familiarity with CSK’s environment will be vital for the upcoming season. The franchise is also expected to announce further support‑staff changes in the near future.

Sharma’s international career comprised eight T20 matches for India, and he featured in IPL 2025 before announcing his retirement in December 2023. During his tenure with CSK, he appeared in 48 IPL games and added ten more appearances in the now‑defunct Champions League T20.

After winning the IPL title in 2023, CSK missed the playoffs for three straight years, leading to a reshuffle that saw Stephen Fleming’s departure. Zahir Khan’s appointment as head coach and Sharma’s entry into the coaching panel signal a fresh direction for the franchise ahead of the 2027 campaign.
