Cricket Journey of Abhimanyu Mithun: Records and Milestones

Abhimanyu Mithun, a former India fast bowler, is remembered as one of domestic cricket's most consistent performers. With 338 first-class wickets, he left a lasting mark on the game, even though his international opportunities were limited.

Mithun was born on October 25, 1989, in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Before cricket took centre stage, he was an athlete at heart and initially planned a career in athletics. He also experimented with discus throw during his teenage years.

At the age of 17, his focus shifted to cricket. A friend encouraged him to join a cricket camp, and that step proved to be a turning point in his life.

His tall frame of 6 feet 2 inches, combined with a rhythmic and quick bowling action, helped him trouble batsmen across formats. Over time, he earned a place as one of the key figures in the Karnataka side.

He made his domestic debut for Karnataka in 2009 and soon became their primary fast bowler. He picked up 338 wickets in 103 first-class matches.

In 2019, Mithun celebrated his birthday by taking a hat-trick in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final against Tamil Nadu. It was the first hat-trick by a Karnataka bowler in that tournament.

That same year, he impressed fans with five wickets in a single over during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the semifinal against Haryana, he took a hat-trick and five wickets in six balls.

He holds the unique distinction of being the only bowler to take hat-tricks in the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Mithun made his One Day International debut against South Africa in 2010 and his Test debut against Sri Lanka in the same year. He played four Tests for India, taking nine wickets, and took three wickets in One Day Internationals.
