Court denies bail for IPL wicket‑keeper Abhishek Porcel, orders three‑day detention

The Chinsurah Chief Judicial Magistrate dismissed the bail application of IPL wicket‑keeper Abhishek Porcel on Tuesday, mandating a three‑day police detention. The magistrate’s order follows a formal complaint from a Karnataka medical student who accused Porcel of breaching a marriage promise and committing sexual misconduct.

The alleged victim described a relationship spanning more than three years, during which the couple traveled abroad together. The partnership reportedly soured about a year and a half ago, leading to an informal police involvement that did not culminate in a written complaint. The grievance was later filed officially at Mogra police station, prompting a renewed investigation.

Mogra police officials conducted repeated searches at Porcel's residence in Chandannagar but failed to locate him. The case was subsequently presented to the Calcutta High Court, which issued an arrest warrant. The magistrate court then received Porcel, confirming his three‑day custodial placement.

Porcel entered the Indian Premier League in 2023 and has played 35 matches for Delhi Capitals, scoring 769 runs with an average of 25.63 and registering four half‑centuries. In the domestic circuit he has appeared in 32 first‑class fixtures, accumulating 1,408 runs, including one century and twelve fifties. His List‑A statistics comprise 833 runs from 23 games, highlighted by two centuries and five half‑centuries.
