Colombia prepares to meet Switzerland in Vancouver after winning in Kansas City
After a disciplined 1‑0 win over Ghana in Kansas City, the Colombian national team turned its focus to the upcoming round‑of‑16 tie against Switzerland. The match against Ghana was decided by a 14th‑minute finish from John Arias, courtesy of Luis Javier Suárez’s assist.
Colombia’s game plan centered on sustained pressure and a compact defensive shape, which prevented Ghana from generating any clear‑cut chances. Late in the second half, Luis Díaz appeared to level the score but his effort was ruled out for off‑side.
With the round‑of‑16 fixture scheduled for July 8 in Vancouver, Colombia will aim to keep its unbeaten record intact. Switzerland, fresh from a 2‑0 victory over Algeria, will present a new tactical test for the South American side.
