Coach Darren Sammy lauds Hope’s double role of wicket‑keeping and opening

During the post‑match press conference, West Indies head coach Darren Sammy highlighted the rarity of a player handling both the gloves for an entire innings and then opening the batting. Hope kept wicket throughout India’s 50‑over effort, then, after a teammate’s injury, walked out to the middle with his pads on and never looked back.

Sammy emphasized that Hope’s seamless transition demonstrated a level of commitment rarely seen in modern cricket. “He did not protest when asked to open; he simply put on his pads and gave us the victory,” the coach said.

The coach also reflected on Hope’s impact on the dressing‑room, noting his clear communication and the belief he instills in his teammates. “He leads by example, and his performance today proves why he deserves more credit than he often receives.”
