Coach Nair suggests bowling tweaks while keeping Suryavanshi at opening

New Delhi, 16 Oct – In the run‑up to the final T20 match of the India‑West Indies series, former assistant coach Abhishek Nair has outlined a clear game‑plan. While he backs Vaibhav Suryavanshi for an opening slot, he recommends that the only adjustments be made among the bowlers.

“The batting order has settled; we should not disturb it. If Suryavanshi is given the opening crease, he must bat where he is most comfortable – at the top. The No 3 slot remains with the player who has shown consistency,” Nair told a sports platform.

He added that the bowling unit will see a reshuffle, aiming to provide tighter overs and more wicket‑taking options. This strategic shift is intended to give India a decisive edge in a match that could settle the series at 3‑2 in favour of either side.

India’s current openers, Abhimanyu Sharma and Sanju Samson, have produced a combined 291 runs across the series, with Sharma’s quick 69 off 30 balls and Samson’s aggressive knocks in Ranchi and Hyderabad. The coaching staff will have to balance these contributions against the desire to test Suryavanshi’s temperament at the highest level.
