Coach Ben Sayer Walks Away from New Zealand Women’s Team Amid High‑Performance Changes

Ben Sayer has announced his departure from the New Zealand women's cricket side after four years at the helm. Appointed in June 2022, his contract was due to expire in December 2026, but a recent high‑performance structure assessment resulted in a non‑renewal decision.

During his stint, the White Ferns earned a bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2022 and captured the 2024 T20 World Cup. Sayer thanked the board and the squad for the privilege of leading the team, saying he is proud of the milestones achieved.

Deril Gibson, chief high‑performance officer, commended Sayer’s impact, noting the considerable progress and cultural shift within the group. He added that the organisation believes a different leadership style is necessary for the next chapter.

Amelia Kerr, the side’s captain, praised Sayer’s dedication, stating his belief and tactical acumen helped the Ferns overcome a trying phase and secure the world title.
