Chetna Pagidyal Leads USA to Clean Sweep in Qualifier Tournament

Captain Chetna Pagidyal steered the United States under‑19 women’s cricket team to an unbeaten run at the Cayman Islands qualifier, ensuring a third consecutive berth at the ICC T20 World Cup. The side won all six of its matches, finishing atop the table with a six‑point margin over Canada.

The campaign began with a commanding 8‑wicket victory over Canada at Jimmy Powell Oval, where the bowlers restricted the opposition to 65 runs. Mahak Desai and Sanvi Immadi each claimed three wickets, while the chase was completed in just 11 overs.

The Americans continued their dominance, posting clean‑sweep wins against Canada again, Argentina and the mixed regional team NextGen Eleven. Desai’s 16 wickets made her the leading wicket‑taker of the tournament and earned her the Player of the Tournament accolade.

With this performance, the United States joins Samoa (East Asia‑Pacific) and the United Arab Emirates (Asia) as qualified teams for the 2027 Under‑19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The remaining African and European qualifiers are slated for later this year.

Pagidyal’s leadership aims to build on the 2025 success, where the USA reached the Super Six stage and gave a formidable New Zealand side a close contest, despite a narrow 18‑run loss.
