Chetan Anand’s Badminton Journey: National Champion and World Top‑10
Born on July 8, 1980, Chetan Anand rose from a small town in Andhra Pradesh to become one of India’s most celebrated badminton players. After an early switch from cricket to badminton under the guidance of coach Bhaskar Babu, he dominated junior doubles competitions, winning national titles before the age of fifteen. Guidance from Prakash Padukone accelerated his development, leading to his first senior national championship in 2004. Anand went on to secure wins at the Irish Open and Scottish Open, and his consistency earned him three consecutive national crowns from 2007 to 2010. His performance at the 2006 Commonwealth Games yielded a bronze in men’s singles and a mixed‑team bronze, followed by a silver in the mixed team event at the 2010 edition. The pinnacle of his career came with a world ranking of 10 in 2009‑10, a historic achievement for an Indian shuttler. Post‑retirement, Anand turned his experience into mentorship, establishing a badminton academy in 2014 that trains aspiring athletes.
