The race for two Category-1 director posts in Chattogram has effectively ended before voting day. After Shariful Islam stepped aside, only Minhazul Abedin and Moin Uddin Chowdhury remain on the ballot, virtually guaranteeing both men unopposed entry into the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Minhazul, who led Bangladesh in the late 1990s, has remained deeply involved in cricket administration. His résumé includes long stints on national selection panels and membership of the current interim committee. In remarks to the media, he stressed that his priority will be to re-energise district-level cricket in his home division, arguing that the regional structure needs fresh investment and planning. Elsewhere, the election map shows little drama. Four other divisions have already filled their Category-1 seats without contest, while only Khulna and Barisal will see genuine competition when polls open on 7 June. With most positions settled early, attention now shifts to the 12 club-category seats still being fiercely fought over. The outcome will shape the composition of the board that chooses Bangladesh’s next cricket chief. Analysts say the absence of widespread contests reflects both the strength of established figures and a desire within the cricket community for stability ahead of major international commitments.
