Canadian Open: Anahat Singh Out With Injury Before Quarters

Toronto, October 28: Indian squash star Anahat Singh will not compete in the quarterfinal of the Canadian Women's Open after sustaining an injury. The development was confirmed through the PSA Tour website.

The 15th-ranked Anahat had been playing with confidence. She reached the last eight after beating England's Saran Nghiem in four games.

Her scheduled quarterfinal opponent was Egypt's Feroz Aboelkheir, the world No. 7 and tournament top seed. Since Anahat is unable to play, Aboelkheir has received a walkover into the semifinals.

Last week in Redwood City, United States, Anahat caught many by surprise at the Silicon Valley Open Squash. She eliminated Egypt's eight-time world champion Nour El Sherbini in straight games to book a quarterfinal spot. It remains the biggest victory of her career so far.

Her recent results have elevated her standing among the promising names on the women's tour. Competing deep into events in the United States and Canada has given her valuable experience against top international opponents.

At last month's Asian Games, Anahat created history as the first Indian woman to reach a squash singles final. She was beaten 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7) by Malaysia's defending champion Shivasangari Subramaniam and took home the silver medal.

At the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, she won two bronze medals in the women's team and mixed doubles events. She then secured a silver in women's singles, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve that milestone.

Earlier this year, she won the girls' singles title at the World Junior Squash Championship 2026, becoming the first Indian to do so. The victory ended Egypt's 15-year dominance at the tournament.
