Bronze Medal Boosts Seema Kumari’s Aspirations for Gold

The bronze that Seema Kumari secured at the Asian Games 2026 has ignited a fierce ambition to clinch gold for India. Finishing the 10,000‑metre race in 32:50.05, she stood on the podium and felt the weight of national expectation.

During a press conference, Seema praised the collaborative network that made the win possible. She named the Athletics Federation of India, SAI and the TOPS programme as key contributors, noting that the training camp in the United States allowed her to work with Olympic and world champions.

She reflected on her earlier bronze at the 2017 Youth Asia Championships, recalling how mentors Kapil Bhaiya, Manoj Kumar Manu and Sanjeev Suri celebrated her first taste of international success. “That moment sparked my dream,” she said, “and today’s medal is a stepping stone toward gold.”

The athlete also emphasized her mother’s relentless support, describing her as the silent force behind the medal. While her father is not present, Seema feels the pride of the entire Chamba community as a driving factor.

Looking ahead, Seema’s training schedule will focus on speed work, altitude acclimatisation, and mental conditioning. She aims to improve her time by at least fifteen seconds before the next major competition, with the ultimate goal of standing atop the podium at the next Asian Games.

The bronze remains a source of joy, but Seema insists that the real challenge lies ahead – converting that bronze into gold for the country.
