BRICS Nations to Display Cultural Sports at Vir Savarkar Complex

The Vir Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad will become a hub of cultural sport on October 12, when the BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games 2026 commence. The event is a joint effort by the central Youth and Sports Ministry and the Gujarat government.

Representatives from each BRICS country will demonstrate a variety of folk and indigenous games, such as Brazil's "jarabathana" pipe sport, China's wushu and health qigong, Ethiopia's tagel wrestling, and India's yoga and kalari. The platform is deliberately non‑competitive, focusing on exhibitions, documentation, and practitioner interaction to foster mutual understanding.

In addition to the sport showcases, the program includes bilateral talks aimed at identifying avenues for promoting heritage sports across the BRICS partnership.
