Brentford’s ‘Bees’ hand captaincy to Rian Cleverly for upcoming season

London, 15 August – The Brentford Women’s team, affectionately known as the Bees, have appointed defender Rian Cleverly as captain for the 2026‑27 season. Cleverly, a 31‑year‑old Welsh international, arrived from Rugby Borough in July and immediately became a vital part of the squad’s leadership framework.

Alongside Cleverly, Madie Phillips will serve as vice‑captain, while Lucy Potter and Makayla Black will provide additional support within the leadership group. Cleverly described the captaincy as “a huge honour” that she did not anticipate, and emphasized her passion for communication and listening to her peers.

She stressed the value of learning from long‑standing players at the club, aiming to lift the team’s performance while maintaining personal honesty and high standards. Cleverly also praised the welcoming attitude of Phillips, noting that their combined efforts will strengthen the club’s culture both on and off the pitch.
