Brazil's 26-Man Squad Blends Youth with Fresh Faces
Brazil have announced a 26-man squad for their upcoming friendly fixtures against Japan and Singapore, with a clear focus on youth and new talent. Five players in the group have never previously represented the senior national team.
Manchester City’s Alan Alias is one of the uncapped players set to make his debut opportunity. Joining him are Cruzeiro’s Jonathan Jesus, Corinthians’ Andre Luiz, and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Marlon Gomes and Alisson Santana.
In a press conference, head coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the individual strengths of the new players. He said Jonathan Jesus stands out as a strong, quick, aggressive and intelligent centre-back, while Marlon Gomes brings plenty of energy. Ancelotti stressed that getting to know each player well is a key priority.
Brazil will first take on Japan on November 14 and then face Singapore three days later. Both matches will be held at the National Stadium in Singapore.
The Japan fixture serves as a reunion between the teams following the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Singapore match will be the first meeting between the men’s senior sides of the two nations.
Ancelotti did not call up any players from Flamengo or Palmeiras, two clubs currently battling for the Brazilian Serie A title.
According to the coach, the squad represents a continuation of the process Brazil began after the World Cup. Rather than concentrating only on the opposition, he said the focus should be on the team’s own goals and identity.
“This is the ideal moment to look for a new generation. We started in the October FIFA window and we are continuing. We have young players who could be the future of Brazil. We have nine players of Olympic age and 15 under 23. This is a team being built for the future.”
