In Belfast, New Zealand wrapped up their first innings at 490 for eight on the second morning of the solitary Test against Ireland. Resuming at 361 for five, the visitors hoped Tom Blundell would reach 200 and Dean Foxcroft would notch his first Test century. Blundell fell for 186 after facing 292 balls, while Foxcroft was dismissed for 98. With the second new-ball pair back in the pavilion, captain Tom Latham declared immediately. Ireland’s reply began disastrously: both openers were dismissed for nought by Nathan Smith, leaving the hosts at 20 for two. Earlier, Rachin Ravindra’s 121 had set the platform on day one. Mark Adair finished with three wickets, supported by single strikes from four teammates. The early damage inflicted by Smith has put Ireland under severe pressure on a wearing surface.
