Bhubaneswar and Chandigarh to Host Major Asian Athletics Events

In a major boost for Indian athletics, Bhubaneswar has been chosen to host the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in 2027, while Chandigarh will organize the Asian Relays the following year. The announcement came during the Asian Athletics Council meeting held in Hong Kong. The news was shared by World Athletics Vice President Adille Sumariwalla, who congratulated the Athletics Federation of India on securing these prestigious events. This development follows India's earlier success in winning the bid for the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championship, also set to take place in Bhubaneswar. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed pride in the state's ability to manage large-scale international competitions. He emphasized that the 2027 championship adds another milestone to Odisha's sporting journey after hosting the 2017 Asian Athletics Championship and last year's continental tour meet. The back-to-back events are expected to enhance India's global sporting profile and offer valuable opportunities for emerging athletes. With top-class infrastructure already in place at Kalinga Stadium, organizers are confident the events will run smoothly and attract strong international participation.
