Bhagwant Mann Felicitates World Junior Badminton Bronze Winner

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has met Jagsher Singh Khangura, who claimed bronze at the World Junior Badminton Championship in Egypt, and celebrated his success with the young player and his family.

Jagsher, aged 15, has earned international recognition for Punjab and the nation through his medal-winning run.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister offered his congratulations to Jagsher and his parents and wished the player success in his future career.

Mann had earlier marked the achievement in a post on X. He said it was a moment of happiness and pride for Punjab and for badminton in the state, as Jagsher of Nabha had won bronze at the championship in Egypt. He added that Jagsher is the first player from Punjab to achieve this milestone and praised the player, his parents and his coach.

In the boys' singles semifinal, Jagsher was beaten by Indonesia's Raditya Bayu Wardhana. That defeat meant he had to be content with the bronze medal.

According to the Badminton Association of India, Jagsher recovered after losing the first game and made the match a decider. Even so, the 49-minute contest ended 6-15, 15-13, 3-15 in Wardhana's favour.

Jagsher had earlier secured his semifinal berth by defeating Chinese Taipei's Yuan-Hsu Chuang. Winning 6-15, 17-15, 15-12 in 48 minutes, he became the ninth Indian boys' singles player to reach the podium at this event.

Ritin Khanna, Secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association, described the performance as a historic achievement and a proud moment for Punjab. He highlighted that Jagsher won a medal in his first year at the championship, an accomplishment that very few Indian players have matched.
