BFI Announces Team for Tampere's 46th Tammer Tournament

The Boxing Federation of India has unveiled a 14-member team for the 46th International Tammer Tournament in Finland, with Jaismine and Arundhati Chaudhary set to lead the Indian challenge in Tampere.

Both boxers are Commonwealth Games gold medallists. Their presence highlights the federation's intent to send experienced competitors to a tournament that has become a regular feature of the international boxing calendar.

The Tampere Boxing Association is hosting the event, which includes elite bouts across 10 men's and seven women's weight categories. The tournament begins on October 28 and concludes on November 2. Within that window, the main competition runs from October 30 to November 1.

The programme is structured in stages. Opening bouts will be contested on the first day, followed by semifinals on October 31 and finals on November 1.

Jaismine (57kg) and Arundhati (70kg) anchor the Indian line-up. The broader selection targets boxers who are third in India's Olympic weight categories and leading Olympic-category athletes who are not part of the Asian Games programme. The aim is to give them exposure to high-level opposition.

Ajay Singh, President of the BFI, said the event provides a valuable platform for Indian boxers to test themselves against international players. He also stressed that the tournament will help build India's strength in Olympic weight categories.

"The Tammer Tournament offers our boxers a key opportunity to gain international experience and compete against strong rivals," Singh said. "Our focus is on increasing the number of players in Olympic weight categories so that more Indian boxers can gain experience competing at the highest level. Tournaments of this kind are an essential part of this process."

In the men's section, Pawan Bartwal (55kg), Hussamuddin Mohammed (60kg), Vivek Meena (65kg), Hitesh (70kg), Akshay (80kg), Bobin Chauhan (90kg) and Chetan Chaudhary (90+kg) will fight for India.

The women's team consists of Tanu (51kg), Aarti Dhariyal (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), Disha Vijay Patil (60kg), Ankushita Boro (65kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (70kg) and Imroz Khan (75kg).

The tournament has been held every year since 1977. The Indian squad will follow World Boxing rules, which gives its fighters the chance to build valuable ring experience against foreign opponents.

The selection strategy reflects the federation's larger plan to increase the number of Indian boxers with international-level experience, so that more athletes are prepared for the challenges of high-level competition in Olympic weight divisions.
