In a significant update from the New Zealand women’s cricket camp in Wellington, batter Georgia Plimmer has been sidelined for the entire ODI series against Zimbabwe after sustaining a shoulder injury. Emerging allrounder Bella James takes her spot, following her summons as cover prior to the third T20 on Sunday.
Coach Ben Sawyer highlighted Plimmer’s void. ‘She’s our top-order mainstay, infusing the group with vital energy. Her absence is a real setback for us,’ he shared candidly.
James brings solid credentials, having debuted in ODIs versus Australia last December across two games. A 2024 World Cup squad member without playing time, her 100-plus List-A appearances make her a safe pick. ‘Bella’s experience is gold. She’ll adapt quickly and contribute effectively,’ Sawyer assured.
Exciting prospects Nancy Patel and Izzy Sharp remain in contention for debuts. Patel’s five-wicket haul in the T20s turned heads, complemented by Sharp’s gritty unbeaten 18 and 22.
Kicking off March 5, these ODIs count towards the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-2029. Fresh off a 3-0 T20 whitewash, New Zealand aims to maintain momentum on home soil.
Full Squad: Amelia Kerr, Izzy Gaze, Maddie Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Jess Kerr, Emma MacLeod, Rosemary Mair, Nancy Patel, Molly Penfold, Izzy Sharp.
