Beardman Back in Australia Squad, Pace Trio Rested for England

Mahli Beardman is back in the Australian fold. The fast bowler has been included in the squad for the three-match ODI series and five-match T20 International series against England, while the experienced trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood has been left out to rest.

Beardman's recall comes after a productive stint with Australia A on the recent tour of India. The 21-year-old last played a T20 International for Australia in January 2026 and is still waiting for his ODI debut. Alongside him in the ODI squad is Oliver Peak, another player who has earned his chance with consistent domestic form.

The selectors have also brought back Jack Edwards, Spencer Johnson and Liam Scott for the 50-over format. This gives the team more options with the new ball and in the middle overs.

The decision to leave out the senior pacers is linked to the busy schedule ahead. Australia has a home Test series against New Zealand coming up, and the three bowlers have just returned from a three-Test tour of South Africa. After a short break, they will prepare for home Tests and then a stretch of 10 consecutive Tests in India.

Nathan Ellis is not part of the ODI squad as he continues to recover from a side strain, but he has been selected in the T20 side. Edwards and Jake Fraser-McGurk have also been named in the T20 squad, with Fraser-McGurk returning after last featuring for Australia in July 2025.

Lachlan Shaw has received his first national call-up after impressive performances in the Big Bash League and on the India A tour.

Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green have had their workloads managed during the T20 series. They follow long tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa and are preparing for the New Zealand series and five Tests in India that come soon after.

Mitchell Marsh will lead both teams.

ODI squad: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Javier Bartlett, Mahli Beardman, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Jack Edwards, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Oliver Peak, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott and Adam Zampa.

T20 squad: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Javier Bartlett, Mahli Beardman, Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Joel Davies, Jack Edwards, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Spencer Johnson, Mitchell Owen, Lachlan Shaw and Adam Zampa.
