Tanzid Hassan’s 101‑run innings in Darwin has rewritten Bangladesh’s Test history. The opening batsman faced 190 balls, struck eight fours and a six, and became the first Bangladeshi to notch a century on Australian soil. His performance eclipsed the 23‑year‑old national best of 76 set by Hannan Government in 2003.

The milestone came after a decisive first‑day showing where Hasan Mahmud’s six‑wicket haul for 55 runs skittled Australia for 198. On day two, Hassan’s partnership with captain Najmul Hassan Shanto – who made 84 – added 93 crucial runs, stabilising the innings and guiding Bangladesh to 348/6.

In a brief interview, Hassan emphasized a measured approach: “I just played each ball as it came, kept calm and didn’t try to over‑hit.” The innings gave Bangladesh a 150‑run advantage, leaving Australia under pressure to recover in the remaining sessions.
