Blow for Bangladesh as Mushfiqur Rahim Gets Hand Injury
Bangladesh has been dealt a blow ahead of its Test series opener against West Indies, with senior wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim reportedly suffering a hand injury in training.
The injury occurred on Tuesday during a net session. Mushfiqur received an ice pack on the ground before walking off from the training session. It is not yet clear how serious the problem is.
Mushfiqur is part of the 15-member squad announced last week. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and experienced batter Litton Das are also in the group, with Litton recently recovering from a hip injury. Mushfiqur's Test record stands at 106 matches, 6,957 runs, 14 centuries and 30 fifties.
Bangladesh's bowling attack gets a lift with the return of Taskin Ahmed, who was unavailable for the one-off Test against Afghanistan earlier this month. His inclusion is expected to add firepower to the pace department.
Bangladesh currently occupies fourth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings. The team will look to consolidate its position and secure qualification for the 2027 WTC final. The two-match series gives the side a chance to make a strong comeback in the race.
The first Test is scheduled at Mirpur from October 28 to November 1. The second Test will take place in Sylhet from November 5 to 9.
With Mushfiqur's availability in question, Bangladesh will wait for more information on his condition before finalising its plans for the first match.
