Avinash Talks Pressure, Coaching by Ricky Ponting and Future Goals

During a detailed conversation with IANS, Paila Avinash opened up about handling expectations after being drafted by Punjab Kings.

He explained that the team’s owners provided a nurturing environment, ensuring he never felt isolated. “Every member of the staff, from the head coach to the support crew, treated me with kindness, which eased my transition into the IPL setup,” he said.

The former Australian great, Ricky Ponting, now the head coach, has been instrumental in shaping Avinash’s mindset. The young batsman highlighted Ponting’s dedication and willingness to discuss technical nuances, which led to small but impactful changes in his stroke play.

When probed about his aggressive style, Avinash said he continues to study senior players’ approaches to different match situations. “I’m learning to choose the right moments to attack while staying responsible for the team's cause,” he observed.

Looking five years ahead, Avinash envisions himself as a match‑winner capable of turning games around, whether as a power‑hitter, an all‑rounder, or a player who can adapt his role based on team needs.
