Australia Visit Marks Cricket Collaboration and Big Bash League Announcement

During his official tour of Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former Australian captain Steve Waugh and presented him with a photograph taken two decades earlier when Waugh visited Gujarat while Modi was the state’s chief minister.

The visit also featured a joint announcement with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese that the upcoming 16th season of the Big Bash League will open at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on December 12. The decision, made at a ceremony held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, signals a new chapter in Indo‑Australian cricket ties and is expected to deepen sporting relations between the two nations.
