Australia tour of Zimbabwe marks first ODI in 12 years

Harare, 13 September – Australia’s visit to Harare for a three‑match One Day International series marks the first time the Australian side has played an ODI on Zimbabwean soil since 2014. The historic encounter is set for 15, 18 and 20 September at Harare Sports Club and is being viewed by Zimbabwe as a benchmark test ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

Sikandar Raza will captain the side in the absence of regular skipper Richard Ngawana, who is still recovering from a lower‑back injury. The squad has also welcomed back two seasoned campaigners: 40‑year‑old Brandon Taylor, returning after a four‑year break, and former captain Greym Cremona, who makes his first ODI appearance since 2018.

Injury setbacks have limited the availability of several key players. Alongside Ngawana, fast bowler Tendai Chatura and medium‑paceman Tanaka Chivanga are sidelined with Achilles tendon problems. Veteran wicket‑keeper Clive Madande, who played in the recent Bangladesh series, has been omitted from the XI.

The team will feature Tadiwanashe Marumani as the backup keeper, while the batting order includes Ben Karn, Brian Bennett, Inosent Kaia, Taylor, Raza and Craig Irvine. Blessing Mujurabani leads a pace attack that also includes Brad Evans, Newman Nyamahuri and Ernest Masuku. Cremona and Wellington Masakadza share spin responsibilities, and the all‑rounders Ryan Burl and Wesly Madhavere round out the side.
