Sources indicate that Prime Minister Modi could announce, during his Australian trip, the historic staging of a Big Bash League (BBL) season‑opening match on Indian soil. The proposed fixture would feature the Perth Scorchers against a local side at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on 12 December, marking the first time an Australian domestic cricket team plays a competitive match in India.

Negotiations among Cricket Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association are reportedly in an advanced stage, signalling a new era of cross‑border cricket collaborations that extend beyond traditional bilateral tours.
